Watch Private Practice - ABC tops ratings with 'Grey's,' 'Private Practice'

Fox, CBS solid with baseball, repeats

Behind the strength of No. 1-rated "Grey's Anatomy" and spinoff "Private Practice," ABC took the Thursday night primetime race. Fox, which aired the fifth game of the American League Championship Series, was second, and CBS, despite airing two repeats, came in third.

According to early estimates from Nielsen, "Grey's" (5.2 rating/14 share in the 18-49 demo, 14.6 million viewers) was dominant. Sandwiched between steady 8 p.m. freshman drama "FlashForward" (3.0/9, 9.8m) and "Private Practice" (3.7/10, 9.9m), the Alphabet not only won in the demo but also edged CBS in overall viewers.

Of course, the Eye would quickly counter that both "CSI" (2.1/6, 10m) and "The Mentalist" (2.7/8, 11.3) were reruns. Net's reality staple "Survivor" (4.0/11) was the most-watched show of the evening with 12.8 million viewers.

Numbers are sure to go up once they become official, but Fox's early tallies on the Yankees-Angels game were 3.3/9, with 10.3 million viewers. Network projects that the game will be the highest ALCS since the seventh-game matchup between the Red Sox and Indians in 2007.

At 9 p.m., "The Office" (4.2/11, 8.5m) continues to fare well for NBC, and the laffer defeated "Grey's Anatomy" in 18-34 (pending the baseball game final results). "30 Rock" (3.2/8, 6.6m) was up slightly from its premiere a week ago.

"Community" (1.9/6, 5.1) was on average for the Peacock since being moved to 8 p.m., but the Joel McHale comedy hasn't done as well as when it was scheduled at 9:30. "Parks & Recreation" (2.1/6, 4.9m) was also on par, as was "The Jay Leno Show" (1.6/5, 4.9m).

CW offered repeats of "The Vampire Diaries" (0.9/3, 2.3m) and "Supernatural" (0.8/2, 1.8m).

Preliminary 18-49 averages for the night: ABC, 4.0/11; Fox, 3.3/9; CBS, 3.0/8; NBC, 2.4/7; Univision, 1.4/4; CW, 0.8/2.

In total viewers: ABC, 11.48 million; CBS, 11.45 million; Fox, 10.34 million; NBC, 5.87 million; Univision, 3.54 million; CW, 2.07 million. http://bit.ly/dvvSJ

James Roday, Michael Weston and Amanda Detmer

Television stars James Roday ("Psych"), Michael Weston ("House, M.D.") and Amanda Detmer ("Private Practice") will headline the world premiere of Gabe McKinley's Extinction in Los Angeles.

Wayne Kasserman directs the Red Dog Squadron production that also features Stefanie E. Frame. Performances run Nov. 21-Dec. 13 at Hollywood's Elephant Space.

The dark comedy centers on "College buddies Max (Weston) and Finn (Roday) [who] meet in Atlantic City, where they traditionally spend their vacations in the fast lane, religiously drinking, drugging and chasing women," according to an announcement. "But this time something is different, and thwarted expectations precipitate a dangerous showdown between the two friends."

Roday, who is co-artistic director of Red Dog Squadron, currently stars on USA's "Psych." The actor, who got his start on the New York stage (The Three Sisters, Sexual Perversity in Chicago), has also appeared in the films "Don't Come Knocking," "Beerfest" and "The Dukes of Hazzard."

Weston has appeared on stage in The Waverly Gallery (Pasadena Playhouse), Snakebit (Off-Broadway) and Dead End (Williamstown Theater Festival) among others. Film/TV credits include "State of Play," "Garden State," "Coyote Ugly," "Six Feet Under," "ER" and "Scrubs."

Private Practice Episode - ABC Network Features Tal & Acacia "Drifting Away" Tonight On "Private Practice"

Debut Album Wake Me Leaps to Top 5 on iTunes Christian Chart, Top 20 on Pop Chart, Following Discovery Download Feature

New music from sister duo Tal & Acacia will be prominently featured tonight during ABC’s hit primetime drama “Private Practice.” The ABC network’s placement of the song “Drifting Away” follows last week’s iTunes spotlight of the duo’s track “ClearView,” as its notable Discovery Download selection. Both songs appear on the duo’s debut album titled Wake Me, released at iTunes on Oct. 6. The album skyrocketed up the iTunes charts hitting Top 5 Christian Albums, Top 20 Pop Albums, and broke into the Top 100 Overall Albums.

The recent iTunes review of the duo’s song “ClearView,” embraces the buzz-worthy track, saying, “The award for ‘song that sounds like it belongs in an iPod Commercial’ goes to the talented sister duo...”.

Tal & Acacia’s music receives further promotion following “Private Practice” this week with a feature on the iTunes Facebook Fan Page, launching on Friday, Oct. 16. The spot includes a digital stream of “Drifting Away” and will reach over 2 million fans.

The duo—sisters Tal & Acacia—grew up in Portland, Maine, and first began songwriting and playing guitar in their teen years, while the family spent an insightful year in Russia with the Salvation Army. Now, in their early twenties, Tal & Acacia aim to create songs that wake listeners and refresh the soul. Musically, Tal & Acacia bear resemblance to such acts as Feist, Norah Jones, Imogen Heap and Sixpence None The Richer, and credit songwriting inspiration from artists like Keith Green and Stevie Wonder.

The quirky pop sound of Tal & Acacia’s debut album, titled Wake Me, is a breath of fresh air—defined by catchy choruses—and girded in joy. Produced by Monroe Jones (Ginny Owens, Chris Rice, Third Day, Caedmon’s Call), Tal & Acacia’s Wake Me is distinctly rich and infectious, andintuitively embraces the clash between the principled, spiritual inner self and a confusing, glittery outer culture.
